"Illustration Friday- Buzz"

Poppies will always remind me of my grandma- behind her house on Franklin street. She had a field of poppies, and I can just see her standing in the middle of them as I came around the corner of her house on my bike.
As I do more and more fabric collage I am amazed at how little visually detail we need to identify what we know- the bees are just a small row of stitches- but the yellow/black certianly identifies a "bee"!

  2. I love this! I tried to do an illustration assignment last year using fabric. However, I found it to be very frustrating with all the little pieces. I ended up just scanning in the fabric and assembling it on the computer.

However, I really admire your work. It has such a beautiful feel to it. I love being able to see the stitches.

    Great job!

  4. WOW! Julia this is lovely. I really like the choice of fabrics, but more than that, the perspective ..the subject and the little buzzing bees are what make it so special.

  8. This was a fast little illustration- did it here and there over the weekend. Fabric is wonderful for me-as is basketweaving and knitting- I am fiber obsessed for the shear (no pune intended) reason you can take it out or off and try again! Dont like something- I just rip it off- usually peoples heads and do it again and again. Editing was what was messing me up in all the other mediums I tried- pen and ink, water color and even paper collage. I get things right- on about the fourth try! Fabric lets me do that!
